Born in Newton,
Massachusetts, Mary was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology and
physiology from Wellesley College. She subsequently received a Master of
Science degree from Vanderbilt University in Molecular Biology. After
moving to Atlanta, she did research on the eradication of smallpox at the
National Center for Disease Control (NCDC). Hoping for more opportunity to
interact with patients, she entered Emory University’s Physician Assistant
program and was awarded a Master of Science degree with honors in 1991.
She was employed as a PA in a neurosurgery practice for 7 years prior to
joining the Atlanta Center for Dermatalogic diseases in 1997.
Mary was the
founding co-president of the Georgia Dermatology Physician Assistant (GDPA)
organization and has maintained continued membership in that organization.
She is also affiliated with other state and national PA professional
organizations (GAPA, AAPA, and NCCPA).
Leisure interests
include traveling, gardening, hiking, diving, and a particular interest in
general aviation flying. Mary has her single-engine-land pilot’s license
with instrument rating.
